A BAMBOO ROAD BIKE BORN FROM THE COLLABORATION BETWEEN LANCE RAKE AND HEROBIKE
The Woven Tube Bamboo Frame road bike was born from a partnership between the industrial designer Lance Rake and the Alabama-based HERObike. Indeed, the will of the designer who always looks for innovative, elegant and practical solutions perfectly matches with the aim of HERObike, that has since always explored new ways to build bikes with bamboo.
Bamboo is in no short supply in the region and can be considered as a sustainable resource. It is a strong material, but is not stiff enough for many performance bicycle applications. For this reason, the bike also incorporates the carbon fiber, a reinforcing and stiff material which allows the bamboo to bend without snapping: the result is a woven bamboo and carbon fiber framework that is extremely strong, stiff, and lightweight.
Currently all bamboo bicycles are made from bamboo canes of approximate diameters, cut to length and hand cured. The reason hidden behind all this is that the plants are always different from one another, that means that every single piece is different from one another in geometry, appearance, or performance.
