THE NEW MARCO BAGNOLI’S ATELIER, LOCATED AT MONTELUPO FIORENTINO AND DESIGNED BY TOTI SEMERANO, OPENS ITS DOORS TO THE PUBLIC. A PLACE WHERE ART AND ARCHITECTURE BLEND TOGETHER, CREATING WHAT THE ARTIST DEFINES AS “SCENIC PERFORMANCE”

“It’s not just an atelier, it’s a real work of art” says Pier Luigi Tazzi, curator of the opening, which took place on May, 5.

The building, born from a collaboration between Marco Bagnoli and the architect Toti Semerano, is not only the studio of the artist, but a multi-purpose space: the SpazioxTempo’s headquarters, archive, workshop and in the future it will also be the artist’s home. The setting up consists of fifty works, not arranged in a chronological order, but in an order dictated by continuous references between art and space. The cornerstone of the whole project is Altare (1994), a work made of terracotta bricks and serene stone slabs. Bagnoli and Semerano consider it the “energy point” that allows the viewer to see the works from different heights and angles.

A place that changes over the time, according to the works of art to host. It’s all about temporary setting-ups, a choice that led the architect to choose materials that will change over time, starting from the rush that has a 30-year life cycle or wood used as a skin that ages in contact with weather agents, confusing with the surrounding area. The building will slowly disappear, surrounded by vegetation, leaving only a trace of itself. Following this idea, Semerano tells us that the Atelier is not finished yet, it will evolve in the future.

The inauguration included a tribute to Michael Galasso, an American composer who has now disappeared, with whom Bagnoli has collaborated on several occasions.
