Venice Biennale 2018: Switzerland

Switzerland participates in the Biennale with the installation ‘Svizzera 240: House Tour’, awarded with the Golden Lion, and with the event ‘Salon Suisse’ in Venice

Switzerland, at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition, presents, until November 25th, 2018, the installation ‘Svizzera 240: House Tour’ at the Swiss Pavilion in the Giardini di Castello and the side event ‘Salon Suisse’, hosted at Palazzo Trevisan degli Ulivi, Campo S.Agnese, Dorsoduro 810, Venice.

With Svizzera 240: House Tour’, Switzerland has won the Golden Lion for the best national participation. The prize was awarded on May 26th, 2018 at Ca’ Giustinian, venue of the Venice Biennale, by the International Jury composed of Sofía von Ellrichshausen (President of the Jury, Argentina), Frank Barkow (United States), Kate Goodwin (Australia), Patricia Patkau (Canada), Pier Paolo Tamburelli (Italy).

“A compelling architectural installation that is at once enjoyable while tackling the critical issues of scale in domestic space.” These are the reasons for the jury to award the installation Svizzera 240: House Tour’.

‘Svizzera 240: House Tour’ is a project commissioned by Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia: Marianne Burki (Head of Visual Arts), Sandi Paucic (Project Leader), Rachele Giudici Legittimo (Project Coordinator), curated by Alessandro Bosshard, Li Tavor, Matthew van der Ploeg and Ani Vihervaara.

‘Salon Suisse’ is the side event organized by Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia and hosted at Palazzo Trevisan degli Ulivi, Campo S.Agnese. With a series of lectures, debates and cultural events, ‘Salon Suisse’ 2018, curated by architectural historian Marcel Bächtiger, cultural theorist Tim Kammasch and architect Stanislas Zimmermann with the support of Laura Tinti, offers the opportunity to explore architecture in all its aspects, in a stimulating atmosphere from a social and cultural point of view.
