Hábitat is on the rise: the numbers, the positive energy of the September 2018 edition and some Italian exhibitors we interviewed confirm it

Hábitat Valencia was visited, from 18 to 21 September 2018, by more than 26,000 professionals, a 13% increase over the previous edition, with a 24% increase in international buyers, mainly coming from Russia (21%), Portugal (18%), France (16%), Italy (8%) and the United Kingdom (5%). The buyers came from 56 countries in total. Definitely, the choice, for the second year in a row, of bringing the fair back from February to September confirmed itself as a winning one. But the driving force is the general endurance of Spanish economy, which is increasingly distancing itself from the years of the crisis. The next edition will be the 55th and will be held from 17 to 20 September 2019.

Daniel Marco, director of Hábitat, said: “It is a historical and very important fair for our country, an attraction for professional visitors with high purchasing power. It also confirms its role as a reference furniture fair in the second semester of the year.” According to many exhibitors, a particularly positive aspect was represented by the massive presence of international visitors who completed orders and projects for the contract sector all over the world. As to the production, the best manufacturing companies are brought together under the brand Mueble de España of Anieme, and the strong attention to outdoor furniture was confirmed.

Meetings and round tables engaging entrepreneurs, distributors and designers culminated on the last day at the institutional stand of Anieme (Asociación Exportación Mueble) and Fedai (Asociación Fabricantes Exportadores de Iluminación) in the talk held by Amazon exponents, concerning the possibilities of e-commerce in the furniture sector. As usual, the success of Hábitat Valencia 2018 was supported by public bodies Icex, which promotes the internationalization of Spanish companies, and Ivace Internacional, which plays the same role locally for the Valencian Community.

Francesca De Longhi of the commercial office of Cattelan Italia told us that the Veneto-based company was in Valencia this year for the first time, being sure of the recovery of its agency in Spain. It decided to display new and bestselling products, as it believes that the Spanish market is particularly interested in the variety of their offer. Antoniolupi, on the contrary, has been participating in Hábitat since 2016, and Fabrizio Zago, area manager, considers it as a productive fair to establish contacts with the Spanish market but also with North Africa and South America.

For Novamobili (Battistella Group) we met Annalisa Favret, export manager for Spain: this is the first year ever that the group has been in Valencia and it did it because it thinks that the Spanish and the Italian markets are similar. On the Iberian territory Novamobili’s presence is already consolidated and the company is interested in strengthening it, especially with Nidi furniture for children and teenagers. [Lucia Bocchi]
