MICHELIN HAS RECENTLY PRESENTED A BIKE EQUIPPED WITH RED LASER DESIGNED TO PROTECT RIDERS AT NIGHT

According to French tire manufacturer Michelin, more than 5000 riders are victims of avoidable accidents every year.

Following the company’s Trendy Drivers, an initiative which aims to change driver habits and reduce accidents, Michelin designed BIKESPHERE. During the day it looks like a normal bike with headlight, but it actually transforms at night. As dark starts to fall, Bikesphere activates an intelligent lighting system with proximity sensor. Indeed, when sensor detects an approaching car, a red laser begins to rotate around the bike and the rider, outlining a ‘virtual’ safety zone. The red laser will mark the presence of riders to drivers, inviting them to pay attention when overtaking the bike and showing them the correct and safe distance.
