In the lush English countryside of the Oxfordshire, within a beautiful farmhouse dating back to the XVI century, is nestled a small, recently opened, jewel of hospitality. It’s a secret and magical place, suitable for a romantic or meditation escape, perfect for those who love history, art, nature and beauty.

Artist Residence Oxford is the fourth facility of a small hotel ‘chain’ (following London, Brighton and Cornwall) of charming accommodations, offering very few rooms, a pub and a traditional restaurant.

The owners Justin and Charlotte Salisbury designed this latest site, restoring an abundance of original features including beautiful flagstone flooring, dark oak paneling, rustic beams and exposed stone and brick. The couple have hand- picked pieces from their favorite auction houses and reclamation yards to complement the existing features, whilst William Morris and House of Hackney wallpaper and a personally curated collection of artwork will add the signature Artist Residence pop of color throughout the building.

The five ensuite rooms are decorated with classic English pieces. There are three Farmhouse Loft rooms which are spacious, light and airy with original pitched ceilings, lead windows and wooden floorboards. Featuring super-king size beds, en-suite bathrooms with rainfall shower and roll-top bathtub, two comfy armchairs or a sofa.

The best room in the house is the Farmhouse Suite. A spacious open plan space with antique furnishings, Morris & Co fabrics and eclectic artwork, the Farmhouse Suite is a bohemian English retreat with a comfy lux feel and a feature brushed copper Catchpole & Rye roll top bath.

Like the other Artist Residence properties, the artwork is a big focus of the Oxfordshire site and has been handpicked by Justin and Charlotte from an eclectic mix of British artists and galleries. Notable artwork includes The Connor Brothers, Harland Miller, Dan Hillier, bespoke Andy Doig Neon’s and a Lucy Sparrow cabinet of felt British household products.

The kitchen is run by the well-known chef Leon Smith and offers delicious local dishes, prepared with vegetables cultivated in the internal garden.

Last but not least, the property includes an exquisitely English pub: Mr Hanbury’s Mason Arms
