the SECOND EDITION of the PROJECT that aims to INCLUDE THE TOWN OF CATANZARO WITHIN THE NATIONAL DESIGN circuit ATTRACTED more than 8,000 visitors.

Catanzaro Design Week was founded in 2016 in Calabria in order to promote design and design culture, analyzing the elements of connection between craftsmanship and design innovation.

Its second edition (that has just ended) registered important numbers, becoming one of the reference point in southern Italy in the field of design.

MATERIA was a four-day event characterized by a “hybrid and contaminated language”: exhibitions, talks, workshops, musical events have enlivened the historic centre of Catanzaro, transforming it into a real design district.

The exhibition was attended by designers, artists and companies from all over Italy. Among the guests, the event  was attended by art directors and designers of international companies, starting from Fabio Rotella, eclectic architect and designer, founder of Studio Rotella, who works for prestigious public and private companies scattered throughout the world and with international brands such as McDonald’s, Coca Cola, Breil and Heineken. Rotella presented some works exclusively designed for this occasion with the help of two companies of Calabria, Azienda Texturae of Reggio Calabria and Marmi Fuda of Siderno (RC), which have helped to create unique and original environments within the exhibition.

Guests also included designers Antonio Aricò, Giorgio Caporaso and Marco De MAsi, star chef Luca Abbruzzino, founder of MIND madeindesign Peppino Lopez, Francesco Shiavello founder of SAO one of the best young architecture studios, and fashion designer Azzurra Di Lorenzo.

The architects Domenico Garofalo and Giuseppe Anania, founders of Officine Ad and organizers of the event are really satisfy as the event MATERIA has grown a lot and generates  several positive aspects: 1 – it triggered mechanisms of contamination among companies, artisans, young designers, national and international guests and laid the bases for the development of the ‘product Calabria’; 2 – it attracted 8,000 visitors with different targets and backgrounds; 3 – it captured the attention of different medias, and important national magazines that began to talk about Catanzaro and Calabria, those same magazines that they studied in their work, now began to talk about them. The promoters of the event will work for the third edition with the aim to generate a real hub of design here in southern Italy.
