The Delaktig series of night&day upholstered furniture is a co-creation of Tom Dixon and Ikea: a base in aluminum capable to create a customizable comfort

Ikea’s strategy

A recent strategy of the giant of the furniture industry Ikea to offer democratic design is to team up with famous designers and famous design brands to offer a range of products based on the active collaboration between the Swedish company and a well-known designer. So (after the Ypperlig capsule collection by the Danish duo Hay) here is the Delaktig collection for the living room designed by none other than Tom Dixon. The co-creation also involved 75 Master’s students in design from across the globe.

A very open line

The concept for Delaktig basically starts from a platform in padded and upholstered extruded aluminum, which can be turned into a sofa, bed, bench, armchair, chaise-longue and comfort-island. It fully puts into practice the concept of modularity and aggregation. Especially since Tom Dixon has equipped it with interchangeable parts such as back and armrests, magazine racks, table tops and a lamp. A series then sturdy and durable, at affordable prices and with the imprint of the good design. It reflects the most current way of in progress furnishing and living, from small to large spaces and vice versa. In search of comfort but also of aesthetics in everyday life.

The extra textile touch

In addition to the Ikea textile coverings, Delaktig can be customized with luxury linings born from the collaboration between Tom Dixon and Bemz: from eco-fur, to waterproof striped fabrics! Bemz ( in fact is a company able to supply, on request, alternative textile linen for Ikea upholstered furniture.

A designer who is also a brand

In 2002, Tom Dixon has founded the namesake brand that designs, develops and sells more than 600 interior design items: from lighting to furnishings to ambient scents. Today it has showrooms in New York, Hong Kong, London, Los Angeles and Tokyo, and is distributed in 65 countries.
