Zona Tortona

The district, one of the first that has started getting ready for the FuoriSalone, has been through various vicissitudes in recent years and is now called  Tortona Design Week


The palimpsest of events for Tortona Rocks, curated by Milano Space Makers, includes over 20 exhibitions, over 30 designers and 50 companies under the theme “Design Narrative”; the protagonist is still Opificio 31 hosting Conteinerwer with futuristic living scenarios; Swiss Design District, collective exhibition of Swiss designers and Norvegian Presence, displaying Nordic design trends. There are also the first edition of the exhibition platform Asia Design Pavilion, the new trends of Archiproducts Milano, Japan with Resonance Materials Project and +d&soli, an installation by Neri&Hu for Stellar Works, a workshop organized by Politecnico di Milano in collaboration with Vans and Napapijri that will present the new Ze-Knit collection.


On via Savona 56, Hidden Sensesby Sony Design, invites you to reactivate your senses in an environment on the borderline between virtual and real, while Marcel Wanders promotes the new products by the Dutch brand Mooi.

Trouble Making. Whos making the city? is the exhibition commissioned by BASE Milano (curated by Raumplan) on mass phenomena and the virtual networks that are changing our cities.

Also Via Tortona brims with initiatives: at the Magna Pars Event Space, IQOS – the device by Philip Morris International that heats tobacco without burning it – presents IQOS WORLD with a site-specific installation by Karim Rashid; while on the corner with Via Novi it is possible to find again Casa Stokke, a space offering services and activities for families and pregnant women, along with Oliviero Toscani’s photo exhibition on motherhood with 40 live shoots.

On via Tortona 57, Miele presents Creating New Dimensions, while on via Tortona 20, HIC EST FABER, a pop-up store to discover the new know-how of contemporary craftsmen, opens.

Lastly, Superstudio Più hosts Nendo: Form of Movement, solo exhibition of the Japanese designer, Superloft, curated by Giulio Cappellini, a project by Kengo Kuma for Dassault Systems and the exhibition Smart City curated by Giulio Ceppi.

Porta Venezia in Design

Porta Venezia in Design  combines design, food&wine and a focus on Liberty architecture of the area (with visits organized by FAI), highlighting cultural heritage, companies and laboratories animating the district all year round.

Jannelli&Volpi, in the building of via Melzo, shows the latest wallpapers and organizes “Wallpaper Land”, art director Matteo Ragni; while Manerba shows three different ways of living the office; Lisa Corti presents the new tapestries and Brompton Junction Milano the latest folding bicycle.

Contemporary art gallery Gli Eroici Furori houses the project Luci e Leggerezza – Il marmo si evolve e si trasforma by Frigerio21, while Spazio Mistral presents light is life, life is light by Marie Christine Volterrani; Bivio Milano presents the ironic and unusual mosaics by Max Marcelia. At Villa Mozart the event ‘DoppiaFirma – Dialoghi tra pensiero progettuale e alto artigianato’ takes place.

The concept store Stamberga hosts : 1+1 historical design gallery (collection of 20th century design pieces selected by Andrea Scarabelli), Bonacina 1889 (a selection of iconic pieces realized by the company during over a century) and Sen Factory (the encounter between the lightness of a Japanese kimono and Italian manual skills). The photo exhibition “Praeludium” by Marco Beretta completes the events.

The Czech Cultural Center presents for the first time in the world Un secolo di design ceco. Dal Cubismo al XXI Secolo, a reflection on the 100th anniversary from the creation of Czechoslovakia from the perspective of design. A new entry is the showroom 1P / PRIMO PIANO realized by ABS Group, Corepixx and ETT: an eclectic space where it is possible to experiment the latest trends in experiential and interactive setting up.

Giampiero Romanò presents his line of customized furnishings, with unique pieces, in an original atmosphere between antique, art and vintage design.

The gallery Lookingatart houses I miei giardini by artist-craftswoman Gaia Di Paola, an exhibition of artistic furnishings in hand-painted and embroidered fabric. Le Caveau Tattoo exhibits the research on Japanese culture Silk Views – Flowers in the books.

At the new MeidLine Store, architecture combines with person-centered medicine.

On Monday, 16 April, at the planetarium, architecture meets psychology and astrophysics: Michele De Lucchi, director at Domus, will talk about Silence and Emptiness with professor and psychoanalyst Massimo Recalcati and astrophysicist Fabio Peri, scientific director of the planetarium.


Isola Design District

Rethinking Materials is the leitmotiv of the second edition of the Isola Design District (www.isoladesigndistrict.com): hidden venues, private courtyards and workshops open their doors to welcome young designers and emerging brands with exhibitions, installations, events and workshops. A young and rebel district, characterized by the desire to experiment and offer new design paths outside the logics of the market. With a large international presence and many novelties, especially, the recovery of the iconographic tradition of piracy, curated by Zup Design under Marco Williams Fagioli’s creative direction.

Stecca 3.0 set up by RivaViva is the district’s headquarters housing, in addition to the info point and the press lounge, Latinoamerican Contemporary Design, the exhibition organized by eiDesign with the group of South American designers illustrating the relationship between design and each of their countries.

3D Printed Playground by Caracol Studio presents a playground for kids, in the shadows of the Bosco Verticale. The components will be 3D printed during the entire Fuorisalone using 100% recycled and recyclable materials.

At Spazio Maraniello, Brut – a group of six Belgian designers – presents Bold Movements & Emotions Beyond Functionality. At gallery Giuseppe Pero, there is the Italian-Brazilian collective formed by Giorgio Bonaguro, Ronald Scliar Sasson and Gustavo Martini.

At Frida, Tuscany-based company Castellani Top Design presents a minimal collection in partnership with artist NO CURVES. While on the upper floor, the company offers the set up for the marketplace of the young Milan-based startup GetaStand.

Convivium, curated by ELITE TO BE, displays the idea of a new conviviality, inspired by the transformations of society and the hybrid living contexts of the future. Milan, London and Hong Kong are tied together by the wine that defines the rhythm of the represented scenes. German designer Myriam Kuehne Raunertransforms a garage into a design gallery, displaying her works aiming at a functional aesthetics.

RivaViva, in addition to its wood furniture, hosts the furnishings realized by the designers of the School of Sarajevo and the main stage of Gardens – the project by Green Island including a urban route that animates the entire district with perfumes and colors.

[1+2=8] presents the collection of smart items on Via Thaon di Revel 10. The presence of Source is confirmed: this year, in the new venue Zona K, it presents Lovely Waste, an exhibition focusing on circular economy, sustainability and technology.

There is also the Milan Design Market in the loft of the Studio Fotografico Gianni Rizzotti with a completely renovated concept: among engaging installations, the works by designers from all over the world are displayed.


At spazio O’, Dutch designers of Dutch Invertuals are back, while Galleria Giovanni Bonelli hosts a dialogue between photographs, videos and objects curated by Gianni Pettena, Duccio Maria Gambi, in collaboration with Nero Design.

Moreover, many craftsmen of the district open the doors of their workshops, public spaces become gathering places and commercial activities become venues for the promotion of independent design. Isola Food District offers its visitors an accurate guide to the best pubs, restaurants, cocktail bars in the district.
