It is nothing new for anyone that the liaison between design and watchmaking is very close: and many designers have put their hands over the years to design these wonderful little machines that we wear on our wrist. Nor Konstantin Grcic escapes this reminder. The German designer in fact designed for Rado a re-edition of one of its most iconic and popular models, the Ceramica.

The new Rado Ceramica, designed by Konstatin Grcic

An unmistakable watch that is certainly noticed by any design enthusiast – a shiny black bracelet in high-strength ceramic, material of choice of Rado, true pioneer in technical research, who was one of the responsible for the use of this material so innovative in watchmaking.

The designer has taken up the original shapes of the watch, and has worked mainly in research on the material. The traditional polished ceramic of the maison has been modified with a surface treatment that has allowed to obtain a satin surface, with a peach leather effect that amazes for its softness, especially in a material apparently so “hard” and cold.

“Materials are definitely the keystone,” said Grcic in an interview. “An intelligent use of materials, with attention to their cost, is my way of interpreting design. Ceramics is one of the most technologically advanced materials I know. Lighter than steel, with a more pleasant temperature when worn, and resistant to scratching”.

4 models make up Grcic’s Ceramica collection, two for men and two for women

Grcic therefore intervened on the material, but also turned his attention to the shapes and dials, which were interpreted in a metropolitan, contemporary style, with touches that enhanced its minimal look. The Ceramica line is thus enriched with four new models, two for men – including its Signature in a strictly limited edition of 701 pieces – and two for women, offering the same style, but with a more coquettish connotation, in glossy black or white, embellished with diamonds set in a frame with silver details.
