The 2018/19 snow season starts off in the Swiss Alps with the ‘Matterhorn glacier ride’, 3S panoramic cableway designed by Pininfarina

‘Matterhorn glacier ride’  is the bold project in which ingenuity, innovation and technology meet at high altitude, challenging nature, to make Europe’s highest peak accessible to all and offer 360-degree views on the largest Alpine glaciers and 38 spectacular peaks in three countries.

On 29 September 2018, in Zermatt (Switzerland), the world’s highest 3S (three-cable system) cableway was inaugurated: designed by Pininfarina and built by the cableway manufacturer Leitner Spa for Zermatt Bergbahnen AG, it connects the Trockener Steg station with Matterhorn glacier paradise (Piccolo Cervino) at 3821 meters.

The new 3S cableway Leitner ropeways, which adds to the pre-existing one, allows you to reach the Matterhorn glacier paradise in a faster and more comfortable way, transporting up to 2,000 people per hour and ensuring the operation of the plants 365 days a year.

The special features of the new Matterhorn glacier ride are the two new stations. In particular the mountain station, characterized by a sober and minimal design: a volume of light and transparent glass whose angular and crystal-like shape recalls that of a rock shaped by natural forces, harmoniously integrated in the Alpine landscape.
