At Fuorisalone 2021, the Triennale will be the hub in Milan of the Supersalone. Here, the ongoing exhibitions and special events
On September 4, 2021, three exhibitions with free admission will open to the public at the Milan Triennale, on the occasion of Milan Design Week. The Salone/the City, until September 12, is a project curated by Mario Piazza, created by the Triennale Design Museum for the Salone del Mobile.Milano. The exhibition tells about the many special events of Salone del Mobile.Milano in the city, throughout the different editions.

A series of exhibitions, projects and installations involving leading names, more and more fascinating, year after year. The show addresses diverse major topics: craftsmanship, the first investigations into the concept of “furniture,” the great Masters, the rise of the “Italian style,” the subject of living in a broad sense.

Carlo Mollino at Casa Albonico
Also with free admission, from September 4 to November 7, Carlo Mollino. Allusioni Iperformali, curated by Marco Sammicheli, who is also the Director of the Triennale Design Museum. The exhibition presents the furnishings of Casa Albonico, designed by the Turin-born architect between 1944 and 1946. This project highlights Mollino’s connection with the second Futurism and his interest in physics and aerodynamics. The furnishings, acquired by the Ministry of Culture, are now on loan to the Triennale Design Museum. Exhibit design by Studio Bunker.
Finally, again for Fuorisalone 2021, the exhibition Fittile. Italian Artistic Craftsmanship in Contemporary Ceramics. From September 4 to October 31, in collaboration with Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d’Arte, it will be a journey through Italian artistic ceramics. Curated by Ugo La Pietra, the exhibition explores Italian artistic ceramics: craftsmanship spread throughout the country with types, techniques, materials, workshops, authors of richness and diversity unique in the world. Fittile is the third project of the cycle Mestieri d’Arte & Design. Crafts Culture, the result of the collaboration between Triennale and Fondazione Cologni, which offers a new point of view on contemporary applied arts.
Triennale Design Musuem
In addition to the special exhibitions with free admission, the Triennale offers the regular program, with special hours, from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm, and the special opening on Monday, September 6, 2021.
The Triennale Design Museum, directed by Marco Sammicheli and recently renovated, presents its new layout. In this exhibit, the Museum of Italian Design tells the story of the evolution of the everyday object, from after World War II to 1981, a conventional date that refers to the foundation of Memphis, and the new course of Italian design from Memphis onward. Objects and artifacts are in chronological order, and provided with texts and insights that help frame the context of each historical period.

Still running until September 12, not to be missed at the Triennale, are the exhibitions dedicated to Enzo Mari and Vico Magistretti.
The exhibition dedicated to Enzo Mari, curated by Hans Urich Obrist with Francesca Giacomelli, illustrates the designer’s work through projects, models, drawings, and often unpublished materials from the Mari Archive, recently donated to CASVA – Centro di Alti Studi sulle Arti Visive del Comune di Milano.
Discover Brera Design District al Fuorisalone 2021
The exhibition dedicated to Vico Magistretti, produced in collaboration with the Vico Magistretti Foundation, is curated by Gabriele Neri, with installation design by Lorenzo Bini/Binocle. Divided into thematic sections, the exhibition presents products, drawings, sketches, and images of his countless projects, preserved and rearranged by the Vico Magistretti Foundation.
