Greenery and gardens for the city of the future

Greenery will become increasingly important for domestic and urban spaces: at Spoga+Gafa, in Cologne, it will be possible to discover the latest trends

In recent years, also thanks to the pandemic, greenery and outdoor space have become increasingly important. Moreover, according to futurologist Max Thiesen, greenery will play a major role in redesigning the city of the future. And that for several reasons. The goal of 70% of the world’s cities is to achieve “zero impact” by 2030 at the latest; it means that cities will have to invest heavily in greenery to improve the quality of the environment.

Moreover, the cities of the digital age will be very different from the cities of the industrial age. It will no longer be so necessary to travel to work every day, and probably not so many private cars will be needed. As a result, parking spaces can be converted into green areas, for example. Agriculture will also be different, probably, and more vegetables will be produced locally. Sustainable greenery and the garden of the future will be among the themes of Spoga+Gafa 2022, the garden fair that returns to Cologne with a physical event after a two years’ absence.

During the two years of the pandemic, Spoga+Gafa has made several changes, developing an exhibition increasingly focused on the care of urban space. At Spoga+Gafa 2022, there will be several exhibition strands representing as many interpretations of greenery, for urban space and more. The areas of Spoga+Gafa include a wide selection of barbecues and kitchens specifically designed for the outdoor space. The fair also hosts all the tools for home gardening, equipped with the latest and most innovative technologies, and everything you need to furnish and decorate outdoor areas. A new feature for the 2022 edition is an area entirely dedicated to furniture, in Hall 9, in collaboration with imm cologne.

At Spoga+Gafa 2022, the 200,000 square meters of exhibition space will welcome more than 1,500 exhibitors from 65 countries in Europe, North America and Oceania; against all expectations, several Chinese companies will participate as well. After a two years’ shutdown, Hall 1 and the halls of the South Wing of the Koelnmesse complex are renovated. Moreover, the connection to the Deutzer station at the south entrance has finally been completed, offering a route through Messecity.

Digitalization and the future of Spoga+Gafa

In recent years, we have all accelerated with digital experiences. Spoga+Gafa has also embarked on a new path and today unveils the new spogagafa.com/365 platform. The new digital platform, which will be active as of June 2022, will allow all players in the outdoor industry to continue their exchange and business activities throughout the year, not just during the trade show. On spoga+gafa’s digital platform, companies will be able to present their products to targeted audience segments, organize digital events, and use digital tools to enhance their presentations.

The sustainable garden

One of the most topical issues is the sustainability of gardens and their maintenance. Spoga+Gafa 2022 will award a prize for sustainability and for the best Garden Center. Meetings, special installations showing the latest trends, and thematic paths complete the offer of the 2022 exhibition. In the pictures, Spoga+Gafa 2019.
